Walk for Children: 2026 SaveSoil Walkathon (SF)

Most people think the environmental crisis is in the atmosphere. Almost no one is talking about the one collapsing under our feet.

The thin layer of soil covering our planet is the foundation of our food, our water systems, our biodiversity, and our climate resilience. The FAO warns that over 90% of the world’s soils could be degraded by 2050, within the lifetimes of kids in school today.

Here’s what’s encouraging: this is solvable. The Save Soil movement, supported by the FAO, UNEP, UNCCD, WFP, and IUCN, is already building momentum. In 2022, 25,000+ people walked across 60+ cities in the first Save Soil Walkathon. Over 170 mayors issued proclamations recognizing SaveSoil Day.

Now it’s Bay area’s turn.

On dates listed below, we’re walking at venues near you: one hour, free, family-friendly, with hands-on soil displays for kids. This is how invisible issues become visible: people show up.
