Event Details

Join the free celebration of the life of a literary icon. In honor of William S. Burroughs and the recent release of “Don’t Hide The Madness: William S. Burroughs in Conversation with Allen Ginsberg” from Three Rooms Press, City Lights will host the book’s editor Steven Taylor and special guests Peter Hale (executor of the Ginsberg estate), Peter Carlaftes (publisher and author of Drunkyard Dog and Teatrophy), and V Vale (Author of Modern Primitives and William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Throbbing Gristle).

“Don’t Hide The Madness” chronicles a four-day conversation between literary greats Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. The wide-ranging discussion is transcribed for the first time in this book by master editor Steven Taylor, who was himself a long-time collaborator with Ginsberg.

A must-see for anyone interested in the beat generation, poetry, or counterculture; this event will be free and open to the public. Excerpts from the book will be read, we’ll hear from our wonderful guests, and copies of this one-of-a-kind memoir will be available for purchase.
