2025 Winter Lighting Ceremony & Free Carousel Rides (Yerba Buena Gardens)

Put a “spin” on a classic holiday tradition this winter as the Children’s Creativity Museum lights up the Bay Area’s oldest and most beloved carousel in Yerba Buena Gardens.

This historic carousel was constructed in 1906 and lived at Playland-at-the-Beach from 1913 to 1972 and moved to Yerba Buena Gardens in 1998.

2025 Yerba Buena Gardens Lighting

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm: LeRoy King Carousel Lighting

Enjoy a lighting ceremony and free carousel rides, with activities in partnership with the Children’s Creativity Museum. The lighting will be around 4:30pm.

5:30 pm – 6:30 pm: Redwood Lighting Ceremony

Sip hot cocoa and relax under the Redwoods during storytime, followed by a short speaking program. The lighting will be around 6pm.

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm: Free Roller Skating by Church of 8 Wheels

Come one, come all to some free public roller skating on the Upper Terrace overlooking the Great Lawn. Check in, sign the waiver, grab some free rental skates, and have fun in this rare opportunity to skate on the stonework of the Upper Terrace. Please note that we cannot accommodate this event safely if it rains, so cross your fingers for great weather!
