In this fascinating illustrated lecture, Dr. DiAnn Ellis covers the world of Downton Abbey on Saturday, January 4, 2014.
Learn about the amazing Victorian and Edwardian periods: from the real Highclare Castle where the series is filmed; to the beautiful Worth gowns; to Modern Spiritualism and Ouija Boards; to The Great War and Spanish Flu Pandemic; as well as the daily lives of the landowners and the servants.
Tea and biscuits will be served at the intermission (most likely complimentary, but bring along a few bucks, just in case).

Dr. DiAnn Ellis is a retired professor from San Francisco State University and a passionate student of British history. She has put together a mesmerizing program inspired by the much watched and applauded PBS television series Downton Abbey.
The event takes place in the Oak Room on the first floor of the San Mateo Main Library.
