Event Details

Pope John Paul II promulgated the World Day of the Sick on February 11, 1992. It is a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. The day coincides with the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes and is a time for those who serve in Catholic health ministry to reflect on caring for those who are sick as well as those who provide care to them. The World Day of the Sick is a Signature Work of the Order of Malta.

The Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland will host the World Premiere of Frank LaRocca’s Messe des Malades. Mr. LaRocca is the award-winning sacred music composer of the Mass of the Americas, and the requiem Mass of the Homeless. The Messes des Malades is a very special Mass honoring Our Lady of Lourdes and will feature the Benedict XVI Choir conducted by Richard Sparks. Moira Richards Conzelman is our gracious patroness of the Messes des Malades.

The Oakland and San Francisco Locations of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta will combine forces to assist Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ in offering the Mass for those seeking God’s grace and mercy with Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone residing in choir. The poignant and ancient sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be offered to those suffering from grave illness.

Please reserve your space here, share with your family, friends, parishes, and especially those in spiritual need in their time of physical and mental suffering. Handicap accessible. If you have questions regarding special needs, please contact Randy Harris at lrh@jmbm.com
