Cancelled – YBCA:ConVerge Monthly Art Gathering | SoMa

Please Note: The specific ConVerge series is no longer taking place at the YBCA, but we encourage you to still come out to the Yerba Buena district every 3rd Thursday for special events at YBCA and neighboring museums.

The YBCA:ConVerge series is a free monthly public gathering featuring creative and generative social art practices.

Community and innovative multi- and inter-disciplinary arts practices come together in the YBCA’s Grand Lobby and Room for Big Ideas with art, live music and curated performances in an interactive, experimental format. Cocktails are available for purchase.

YBCA ConVerge presents a communal “stitch and b*tch” session led by embroidery artist Mei-ling Humphrey and her visiting mother, Catherine Wong. From 4:30-6 pm, sit around a giant embroidery hoop with Mei and Catherine, engaging in communal learning, labor, and expression.

In addition, YBCA Artist-in Residence Myra Melford partners with Berkeley’s Jazzschool to present a Jazz Pop-Up Club featuring a cross-section of inter-generational Jazzschool students. The sextet unites middle school, high school and college age players, led by trumpeter and Jazzschool Young Musicians Program director Erik Jekabson. Besides feuring trumpeter Erik Jekabson, the ensemble includes Eric Nakanishi and Quinn Rocklinone on saxophone, Arabelle Schoenberg on piano, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass, and Dillon Vado on drums.
