50¢ Dance Class Day | Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

Ready for a day full of dance for just 50 cents? The 50 Cent Tabernacle is a series of open, mixed-level dance classes with some of the Bay Area’s foremost masters of the craft. For 50 cents, you can join in on several different 60-minute classes.

Curated by the YBCA Young Artists at Work program, the 50 Cent Tabernacle transforms the YBCA Forum into a creative, energized space for all.

The 50 Cent Tabernacle is a series of open, mixed-level dance classes with some of the Bay Area’s foremost masters of the craft. Making art accessible, and for just 50¢, participants can attend as many classes as they like.

Each Tabernacle is shaped around different types of dance and movement; there’s something for everybody.

This month’s Tabernacle is the /peh-LO-tah/ edition, a diasporic experience celebrating the world premiere of /peh-LO-tah/. The performance travels through South Africa, Haiti, and Brazil, exploring black life. Enjoy dance classes that celebrate African and Caribbean cultures, with a twist of live music.

  • 11am: Portsha Jefferson teaching Haitian folkloric
  • 12pm: Afia Thompson teaching West African dance
  • 1pm: Nina Flagg teaching Dancehall (ages 14+)
  • 2pm: King Theo of SambaFunk! teaching Brazilian Carnival
