Y-Exchange is a monthly series of free presentations about performing arts, technology and science and how they intersect and inform each other, in which selected artists and scientists are invited to talk about their life and work.
This month, Y-Exchange is proud to present composer, Patricia Alessandrini and playwright, Derek Lee McPhatter.. Y-Exchange is co-presented by Kinetech Arts, ODC Theatre and The Djerassi Resident Artists Program. This event is open to the public and admission is free.
“Patricia Alessandrini is a composer/sound artist creating compositions, installations, and performance situations which are for the most part interactive and intermedial. Her works have been presented in the Americas, Asia, Australia, and more than 15 European countries. She performs research on immersive experience, embodied interaction, and instrument design for inclusive performance. She studied at the Conservatorio di Bologna, Conservatoire de Strasbourg and IRCAM (Paris), and holds PhDs from Princeton University and the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC). She currently teaches at Stanford University/CCRMA. She is published by Babelscores, and her works may also be accessed through her website.”
And for some words from Derek:
“Wow. 2019 is being so good to me!
I’m writing from Northern California, where I’ve settled in to focus on a brand new work over the next few weeks in the Djerassi Resident Artist Program. This program is amazing; I feel very supported and it’s great to finally have the headspace to focus on my new Afro-Surreal Performance Suite.
This is right on the heels of some wonderful shine for BRING THE BEAT BACK. In NYC, last night’s Genre Urban Arts Pride Pop Up at the Bowery Poetry Club was apparently OFF THE CHAIN, and I’m looking forward to the videos and photos from that. (Huge thanks to all the NYC Tru Believers for pulling that one through!) And in Chicago, we’re nearly done casting for our concert production run in September.
All of that to say, JUNE was truly a special month. Of course it wasn’t all sunny. A loved few loved ones lost some loved ones, and the news is still the news. But from my Birthday to Pride, it’s really been quite something. Feeling very thankful and full and ready for more!”
