2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Live at Civic Center Plaza | June 11 July11Want to experience all the action of the World Cup in a big communal setting? Youth soccer league America Scores and the SJ Earthquakes of the MLS are sponsoring a free giant screen broadcast of the 2010 World Cup from South Africa in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza.

The 13×18 screen will be mounted on a truck and hydraulically lifted and will broadcast as many World Cup games as possible.

  • Today’s big match  is France vs. Uruguay which kicks off at 11:30am PST.

The World Cup games run for one month, from June 11 – July 11, 2010. Presented on a large format screen with free public access, a range of food choices, and soccer-based youth programming at the event to emphasize the fun of exercise and games with kids, RPD’s live broadcast will be a main attraction amongst San Francisco’s highly international population of Europeans, Asians and South Americans, as well as soccer’s growing American fan base.

The San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department will set up a truck-mounted, hydraulically-elevated 13’ x 18’ viewing screen along the western edge of Civic Center Plaza to show the 2010 World Cup games, being played in South Africa. These events will bring tens of thousands of people together to celebrate the world’s game as well as San Francisco’s diversity and healthy, athletic lifestyle; and provide the opportunity for kids to play soccer in the shadow of City Hall while watching their heroes perform on the big screen.
