Cinnamon and Gunpowder author Eli Brown appears at the Main Library as part of our On the Same Page bi-monthly book program.

This historical novel has it all: pirates, a kidnapping, gourmet cooking at sea, mystery and adventure, marauding ships and a beautiful pirate captain. It is 1819 in England, and Owen Wedgwood thrives in the kitchen of his wealthy employer, producing mouth-watering delicacies using only the finest ingredients, bolstered by the best equipment and knives that money can buy. Then the ruthless Captain (Mad) Hannah Mabbot invades his peaceful domain, murders his employer and carts him off to sea. Miles from fresh ingredients and a meager pantry, Wedgwood must use all of his imagination and skills to produce delicious meals in order to save his life. Throughout this page-turner, it becomes clear that both captain and crew have surprising secrets and that the enemy may not always be who or what it seems.

NPR’s Petra Mayer refers to the novel as “food porn and rip-roaring pirate adventure.”
