The annual SF Sketchfest Comedy Festival returns to San Francisco once again with 17 highly anticipated days of comedians, improv and stand-up. But there’s no need to break the bank for a few laughs.

Read on for SF Sketchfest comedy, movies, and events for $15 or less between January 19 and February 4, 2012.

SF Sketchfest 2012:
Top picks for $15 or less

The Legacy Music Dance Party: Mame That Chune
Saturday, January 21 | 5:30pm | Hemlock Tavern | $10

Mame That Chune is “Name That Tune” for video game music of the 8-bit and 16-bit era.  Three audience members will be selected to compete along with three comedian contestants.  After the game show, the dance party begins featuring strictly video game music. No remixes, no covers – just pure music from the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, Game Boy, and more.

Nightlife at the California Academy of Sciences
Thursday, January 26th | 6pm | California Academy of Sciences | $12

Sharks, rare butterflies and iridescent jellyfish play host to the rarest creatures of the comedy realm including Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911!), and plenty more improv troupes and standup comedians. New Wave City DJs Shindog & Andy T., from the city’s top 80s dance party, will be spinning throughout the night.

The Dark Crystal 30th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, February 4th | 11am | The Castro Theatre | $10

Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Jim Henson’s classic family fantasy The Dark Crystal. The show will feature a pre-screening introduction by famed Henson puppeteer Dave Goelz, who performed multiple characters in the movie (and is also the man behind The Great Gonzo), and rare behind-the-scenes footage.
