Golden Gate Park Band | Free Sunday Concert in the Park
The Golden Gate Park Band
, under the new direction of Robert Calonico, presents the 136th season
in Golden Gate Park’s music concourse. That’s right, this symphony has been playing free concerts in Golden Gate Park for more than 100 years.
The weekly concerts take place most Sundays at 1 pm, run about 90 minutes and are free and open to the public.
All concerts take place in between the de Young and the California Academy of Sciences and feature music of specific nationalities or cultures, including costumed guest performances from dancers, singers and speakers, who will enlighten and entertain.

Concerts on April 22, 29, May 20, 27 and June 3 will be conducted by Conductor Emeritus Michael Wirgler. The rest of the season will be conducted by Robert Calonico.
There is no particular theme for the concert on August 11, 2013 – just a mixed bag of great music performed by the Golden Gate Park Band.
They will do the famous Poet and Peasant Overture, Vincent Persichetti’s Divertimento, Music from Smetana’s Bartered Bride Opera, and a salute to song writer Marvin Hamlish , among others.
