The U.S. Marine Band San Diego, some 45 musicians strong, will make the march from Old Bernal Road to St. Mary Street in Pleasanton beginning at 2:00 p.m., playing march and show tunes. The free Main Street march will be a precursor to the 145th Scottish Highland Gathering & Games, to be held at the fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, September 4 and 5.
Marine Bands have long been a tradition at the Scottish event, performing in front of the main grandstands at the fairgrounds both days along with more than 30 pipe bands from the U.S. and Canada. The games are organized and presented by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco.
During their march, the band will provide the downtown crowd with several intricate marching maneuvers at intersections and under the famous Pleasanton Arch, where officers of the Caledonian Club of San Francisco and dignitaries will be assembled. The march will also include a piper, exemplifying the Scottish event.
The march is expected to take one half hour. Main Street between Old Bernal Road and St Mary Street will be closed beginning at 1:30 and will re-open immediately following the parade.
