Movie-themed Canned Food Art Sculpture: Final Day | SF
Teams of architects, engineers and contractors will compete to design and build giant structures created entirely out of canned food for the 5th Annual San Francisco CANstruction 2015.
> IS THIS TAKING PLACE IN NOVEMBER 2015? NO – We have confirmed the CANstruction dates on their website were incorrect and does not take place in November. The updated dates are February 27-March 5 2016.
It’s similar to a sand castle contest, but all sculptures are made of canned food. At the end of the exhibit, all cans will be donated to the SF Food Bank.

2015 CANstruction Theme: “AmeriCAN Grown”
In 2015, Del Monte has generously donated 70,000 cans to SF Canstruction and the SF-Marin Food Bank. What does this mean for you and the competition.
11 teams will spend nearly 8 hours building their sculptures using 2,500-5,000 cans each. They will all be on display as a free art exhibit filling the lobby and atrium of One Rincon Center.
An awards reception will be held on Monday, November 9 at Rincon Center (time is TBD). Each participating team is invited to come, celebrate and continue to raise funds for the SF-Marin Food Bank.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
- Best Meal
- Best Use of Labels
- Structural Ingenuity
- Juror’s Favorite
- Honorable Mention (Most Cans Used)
- Honorable Mention (Best Interpretation of Theme)
- And NEW this year – Team with the largest dollar amount raised for the SF-Marin Food Bank
The exhibit is free to view, though attendees are encouraged to bring cans of food to donate.
*Guests are encouraged to bring a canned food donation
