2015 Schedule

Sandcastle 101 – 10 am to 12 pm
At this hands-on castle-building workshop, you’ll learn:

  • How and where to begin
  • Tricks on sand manipulation
  • Which pitfalls to avoid
  • Tasks best suited for little hands versus big ones
  • How to make something out of nothing, using ordinary household tools
  • Tips on winning the “Best in Show” award at Leap’s Sandcastle Contest

Lunch break: 12-12:15 pm
Bring your own pack lunch and so you have something to snack on in between the two workshops.

How to Make and Use Sand Globes – 12:15-1 pm
Sand globes are spheres made from sand and water — as small as a plum or as big as a basketball! Surprisingly, the key element in forming sand globes is throwing them in the air.

Environmental artist Zach Pine will teach the basics of sand globe making, as well as more advanced techniques such as:

  • How to make very large globes
  • Sculpting globes
  • Stacking globes
  • Incorporating globes into larger sand sculptures
  • Tossing globes among group members as a fun method for making them

What to Bring:
Supplies for the sand (for example, buckets, shovels, spray bottles, carving tools, trowels, etc.)
Supplies for you (sunscreen, water, towels, snack, etc.).
Please note: Leap will have a very limited amount of supplies, so please be sure to bring your own
