100 Foot Tall Film Night | The Great Wall of Oakland

For special events, and on select first Fridays during Oakland Art Murmur, the Great Wall of Oakland, a 100 ′x 100′ projection installation, illuminates the Uptown District with cutting-edge motion art from around the world.

The Great Wall of Oakland is located at the corner of Broadway and West Grand Avenue in downtown Oakland.

“Supercut” is a juried program of videos that employ strategic, thematic use of appropriated footage. These works fall within, comment upon, or otherwise relate to the genre known as the “supercut”, which Wikipedia defines as “a fast-paced montage of short video clips that obsessively isolates a single element from its source, usually a word, phrase, or cliche from film and TV”.

Curated by Christina Yglesias, Timothy Furstnau, and Andrea Steves, the program serves as an introduction and brief history of the “supercut” genre to those unfamiliar with it, and an exploration of how this approach to popular culture has both shaped and been shaped by contemporary artistic practices.
