Cheza Nami Foundation Presents the 11th Annual Taste of Africa Festival: A Day of Cultural Celebration in Livermore, California

Get ready to embark on a journey of culture, diversity and celebration as Cheza Nami Foundation proudly presents the 11th annual Taste of Africa Festival in Livermore, California. Taste of Africa is a free, outdoor festival celebrating the rich diversity and heritage of Africa and the Diaspora, which will be taking place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 10:00am – 6:00pm at the Shea Homes Plaza Lawn Area of the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, 94551.

Cheza Nami Foundation’s Taste of Africa festival welcomes you to explore the rich tapestry of African heritage and the Diaspora. With a vibrant lineup of musicians and dance performances by local African and African Diaspora artists, awe-inspiring art exhibits, tantalizing cultural cuisine, an African marketplace, a community art project and a Kidzone featuring a reading corner, arts and crafts, and interactive instrument exploration, this event promises an unforgettable experience for all ages.

New this year is the “Moving Together” program, on McLeod street right across from the Bankhead Theater, bringing master African & Diaspora Artists for dance and drumming workshops, all free to the community.

Event Agenda:

Shea Homes Plaza Lawn Area, Bankhead Theater, starting at 10:00am:

African Art, Cultural Food Vendors, African Marketplace, KidZone activities, and Moving Together Dance and Drumming Workshops, as well as an outdoor stage with live music programming. The main program will be followed by a night market starting at 6PM

McLeod Street between First and Second Street from 10AM-6PM:

Moving Together Drumming and Dance workshops – Come and explore dance and drumming with workshops facilitated by master teachers teaching movement from different cultures such as Mali, Senegal, Brazil, Kenya, Zimbabwe and many more. No experience necessary and open to all ages.

As Cheza Nami enters its 12th year of operation, we proudly reflect on the thousands of individuals who have been transported to Africa through our past events. Last year alone, we drew over 3000 attendees, and this year promises to be even more extraordinary. All proceeds and donations from the event will be directed toward supporting local Bay Area youth outreach programs, making this a celebration with a profound purpose

This event is made possible in part by grant funding from the California Arts Council, and the City of Livermore. Our event Sponsor is the Livermore Valley Arts.
