Event Details

The Golden Gate School of Arms presents a public Assault of Arms demonstrating martial artistry in European swordsmanship. This public display features assaults, or combative bouts, with four different weapon types spanning 300 years:

  • dual-weapon rapier and dagger of the 17th century,
  • smallsword of the 18th century, and the dueling sword
  • foil of the 19th century.

Prior to each assault the weapon’s construction and historical background will be introduced. The Golden Gate School of Arms will also have many antique and modern weapons on display for viewing, and will be fencing throughout the Art Murmur gala from 6-9pm.

This demonstration takes place during Oakland’s Art Murmur at American Steel Studios in West Oakland, at 1960 Mandela Parkway on the corner of Mandela and 20th. American Steel Studios is the largest maker space and artist community in the country, with over 150 resident artists of sculpture, fine art, lithography, and more.
