Event Details

Come to Treasure Island and celebrate its rich cultural contribution to the Bay Area at the free 4th Annual Treasure Island History Day. Engineering marvel, world’s fair site, airport, Navy Base, San Francisco neighborhood. Celebrate the art, architecture, and entertainment of the fair, the China Clipper flying boats, adventurer Richard Halliburton. Food, film, raffles, live art, slides, talks by Gray Brechin, Will Maynez, Carolyn Treanor.

You’ll also see a preview of our upcoming exhibit, “A Salute to the Sea Services,” opening in late March, and have an opportunity to meet our student curator, Paradise Osorio.

Speakers include Ms. Treanor and Will Maynez, who will give a talk on Diego Rivera’s “Pan American Unity” fresco, created on Treasure Island in 1940 and now housed in the Little Theater at City College of San Francisco. The brilliant and iconoclastic Gray Brechin will give a talk about world’s fairs on America’s Pacific coast. We are truly honored to welcome this talented group of speakers.

As at prior events, we will raffle off some interesting items, we will have a treasure hunt (with prizes), and artist Prakash Chandras will be with us. New this year: the Treasure Island Job Corps culinary school will provide us with some delicacies
