$5 Classic Movie Night | Paramount Theatre

Experience the great films of Hollywood’s Golden Era in one of America’s finest Art Deco movie palaces.

With over 3,000 seats and a meticulously-restored interior, the Paramount offers a true “Movie Palace” experience straight out of the 1930s – with period newsreels, cartoons, previews, live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer organ and the audience participation spinning wheel game of “Dec-O-Win.”

This film is about a U.S. Air Force commander, believing that there is a Communist conspiracy underway to poison the water supply, launches an attack by nuclear bombers against the Soviet Union. Director Stanley Kubrick mocks the Cold War, the U.S. military-industrial complex, and American politics in what is arguably the greatest satire in American cinema. With a script co-written by Kubrick, Terry Southern, and Peter George, there is perhaps no other movie that contains so many memorable scenes and so much quotable – even legendary – dialogue. Likewise, Kubrick’s casting selection is impeccable – it’s difficult to single out a favorite performance or actor. Everyone in this stellar cast is at the absolute top of his game: Peter Sellers playing three roles (American President, British liaison officer, and “ex” Nazi scientist), George C. Scott as the bellicose General “Buck” Turgidson, Sterling Hayden as the delusional General Jack D. Ripper, Keenan Wynn as the aggressive Colonel “Bat” Guano, Slim Pickens as the insanely cheerful bomber pilot, James Earl Jones as the unflappable bomber navigator… Every actor delivers. Every performance is superb. This is a masterpiece of black comedy with frightening implications still relevant to this day.
