ON HIATUS: $5 First Friday at Chabot Space & Science Center | Oakland Hills

Enjoy $5 admission to the Chabot Space & Science Center in the Oakland Hills every First Friday of the month from 6-10 pm.

$5 admission includes unlimited access to everything from laser and planetarium shows to Night Hikes and Star Stories. Regular admission is $18 for adults, so this is a super deal.

Every First Friday event will include a variety of fun evening activities for the whole family. Enjoy music, a bar, science demos, talks, telescopes, space missions and more.

Some activities have limited capacity and are first come, first served, so get there to sign up early. There is no pre-registration for First Fridays; just show up and join in on the fun.

Chabot Space & Science Center will be energized with the sounds of bells, buzzers and bumpers as pinball machines old and new fill the space and the public can enjoy an adrenaline rush learning about science in a completely new, interactive way.

Join them as they celebrate their newly opened exhibition, The Art and Science of Pinball, an exhibition created in partnership with the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda, CA.

There will be live musical performances from kid rock bands from 3 O’Clock Rock throughout the evening, plus enjoy hands on pinball activities and make your way up to the Pinball Exhibit in Astronomy Hall and try your hand at the game on one of the many pinball machines.

Join the DJ for one giant dance party for mankind

Hands on Pinball Activities
Time: 6-9 pm
Play some pegboard pinball or create your own pinball design at the interactive activity stations throughout the center.

Pinball 101: The Art and Science to Better Pinball Play (looped)
Time: 6-10 pm
Location: Megadome Theater Wander into the Megadome anytime between 6-10 pm to view this 70 minute documentary that will be playing on a loop through the evening. Learn to play pinball from one of the top players in the world, Keith Elwin. Featuring over 50 pinball games, Pinball 101 demonstrates all the flipper skills required to improve your scores, as well as game specific tips, pin-fun and more.

Zeiss Astronomy Presentation
Times: 6:30 pm and 7:15 pm
Location: Planetarium
Explore the cosmos as a Chabot Astronomer leads you through the galaxy using a Zeiss Universarium Mark VIII Star Projector. This recently restored Zeiss projector uses advances fiber-optics to project stars with astonishing clarity.

Telescope Makers Workshop  
Time: 7-10 pm
Location: Chemistry/Physics Lab
Open to all ages, the Telescope Makers’ Workshop is an all-volunteer group committed to helping people build their own telescopes. Drop in to see what they are up to.

Live Music Under the Stars
Time: 8:30 pm
Location: Planetarium
Join in for live music by Eki Shola under the stars in the Planetarium using their Zeiss Universarium Mark VIII Star Projector. Eki Shola is a musical healer, composing music that allows listeners to relax and ease the daily stressors of life. Her creation is a mystical, funky, electro soul journey to which all can emotionally relate.
