Rally Event: “Back the Blue Until It Happens to You”

Dear Community Members,

We invite you to join us for a rally and council meeting presence on September 26th at 5:30 pm, in front of Milpitas City Hall, as we stand together under the banner of “Back the Blue Until It Happens to You.”

The purpose of this event is to shed light on issues of wrongful arrests and police misconduct, as well as to advocate for meaningful change within our community. We believe in holding our law enforcement agencies accountable for their actions and striving for a more just and transparent society.

Background:

One of our community members was wrongfully arrested, or as per the Milpitas police’s follow-up letter, “detained” overnight. It has come to our attention that certain actions taken by the police force were driven by ulterior motives and connections that compromised justice.

Our Rally’s Objectives:

Transfer School Policing: We advocate for the transfer of school policing responsibilities to community police volunteers, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.

Educational Outreach: We propose regular school meetings to educate students on crucial aspects of interacting with law enforcement, including understanding that rules may change once they turn 18, knowing their rights, and the significance of recording interactions with police.

Police Accountability: We demand accountability for police misconduct, such as the unjust shooting of unarmed individuals, police brutality, retaliation, illegal surveillance, and abuse. We also urge for the implementation of measures that allow for transparent and respectful interactions with the police.

Defunding the Police: We advocate for the reallocation of funds and resources from the police department to community initiatives aimed at crime reduction, victim support, and reducing recidivism for former inmates.

Please join us in supporting these causes and advocating for justice, transparency, and equality within our community. Your presence at the rally and during the council meeting will help us raise awareness and work towards positive change.

Remember, “Back the Blue Until It Happens to You” means that we believe in law enforcement, but we also demand accountability and fairness for all.
