Macy’s Great Tree in Union Square, San Francisco’s most recognized Christmas tree typically stands more than 83-feet tall, decorated with 43,000 twinkling energy-efficient LED lights and 700 shining ornaments.

For 2022 although the tree will make another appearance in Union Square and will be lit throughout the holidays, there will be no tree lighting ceremony in 2022 according to unionsquareshop.com

2022 Update: This year, Macy’s will not be holding an actual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Event. For the protection of visitors, locals and shoppers this year Macy’s will still be gifting to the City of San Francisco, the Great Tree – just no event to avoid crowds and protect the public.

Macy’s gift to the City of San Francisco – Macy’s 33rd Annual Tree Lighting will take place in Union Square Park between Sutter & Geary streets and Powell & Stockton Streets, right across from the front of Macy’s.

The beautiful and reusable tree will be decorated with plethora of twinkling energy-efficient LED lights and shining ornaments.
