Parcel G Buildings to be Demolished Hold History

  • Mixed media Art & History Installation by Stacey Carter
  • Exhibit on display in the Shipyard Gallery February 21 – April 11, 2026

Stacey Carter’s installation documents six buildings at Hunters Point Shipyard – 351, 351A, 366, 401, 411, and 439 – slated for demolition.

Through recovered artifacts, historic photographs, original documents and archival research, the work traces the layered histories held within these structures. Built to support World War II ship repair and later Cold War research, these spaces carried the labor of shipfitters, welders, machinists, and engineers whose work sustained naval operations. In later decades, they were adapted for civilian use, housing artists, fabricators, and small industries.
