Yerba Buena Illuminated: Free 95-Ft Art Projection on Market Street

San Francisco has officially turned a downtown building into a giant art projector.

Yerba Buena Illuminated launched Tuesday, August 25, 2026 projecting giant digital artworks onto the historic Humboldt Bank Building at 785 Market St., at the top of Yerba Buena Lane. The massive projection covers a 95-foot-high by 46-foot-wide section of the building, turning one of Market Street’s historic facades into a giant outdoor art screen.

The free outdoor art show runs nightly from twilight until 10 p.m., with the first artwork on view for about 90 days. The inaugural projection is Jennifer Steinkamp’s It’s a nice day for a white wedding. (2008), from SFMOMA’s collection. Inspired by Billy Idol’s “White Wedding,” the digital artwork covers the Beaux-Arts-style building with a cascade of animated red, white and yellow wedding flowers.

The project is a collaboration between Yerba Buena Partnership, SFMOMA, the Museum of the African Diaspora and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. And this first installation is just the beginning: MoAD and YBCA will curate future projections in 2027, so the giant building-as-canvas is sticking around.

The projection is designed to serve as a giant welcome sign for the Yerba Buena arts district, home to more than 60 public artworks and some of San Francisco’s biggest cultural institutions. The rotating projections will continue to light up the Humboldt Bank Building after the first 90-day installation ends.
