Light, sound and memories on the Shipyard crane.
CRANE opens with a watch party at Zaccho Dance Theatre.
Artists transform the giant gantry crane at Hunters Point Shipyard into an after-dark theater of light, original music and community history, honoring the people who built and worked the Shipyard, many from African American families who still live in Bayview Hunters Point.

About CRANE
In October 2026, the historic gantry crane at Hunters Point Shipyard — the towering landmark of San Francisco’s southeastern waterfront — comes to life in CRANE, a large-scale work of public art combining illumination, original music, and live performance.
CRANE is a celebration of community history: the story of the Shipyard and Bayview Hunters Point and of the people who built it, worked it, and lived it, told in light and sound on the crane itself.
Performances will be live-streamed. Because the crane rises high above the Shipyard, you can experience it in real life from anywhere the crane can be seen, augmented by streamed sound and detail images on your own device.
Listen to some of the CRANE audio soundscapes under development at crane.video.
