Celebrating the first total lunar across to cross over SF in 3 years, dive into the science and history of eclipses with experts from the Exploratorium. Hear first-hand stories from the path of totality, gain a deeper understanding of the lunar phases with interactive activities, and gaze at the stars with the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers.

Hear from eclipse enthusiasts and astronomers on their personal experiences from the path of totality, and learn about the Exploratorium’s extensive work in broadcasting total eclipses to audiences all over the world.

Test your knowledge of the lunar phases, and get your hands on models of Earth, Sun, and the moon to understand what alignments take place in order to experience an eclipse on our home planet.

Lori Lambertson studied dance and biology at UC Santa Cruz, painting at USF, and education at SFSU. She taught both math and science at the middle school level, before working as teacher-in-residence in the Exploratorium’s Teacher Institute (TI).

Take a close look—way close—at the night sky! Educators from the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers will be available with telescopes and enthusiasm, guiding you through just exactly what you’re seeing.

Operating since 1952, the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers share a long tradition of helping to promote an appreciation of the wondrous night sky in the Bay Area. They offer regular Star Parties at various locations as well as other public events.
