Submitted by the Event Organizer
Recently named by the World Open Water Swimming Association as one of America’s Top Open Water Swims, this one-mile swim around the historic Santa Cruz Wharf attracts ocean swimmers from all over Northern California and it’s happening on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
Starting on Main Beach and finishing on Cowell Beach, the swim around the Wharf gives athletes a unique perspective on this century-old structure and its most vocal residents, the sea lions.
Contestants receive a siren start, enter the ocean at Lifeguard Tower #3 on the East side of the Municipal Pier, swim parallel to the pier, around the end, and then straight in to the finish in front of the Santa Cruz Dream Inn on the West side of the pier. The course is one mile. Water temperature is approximately 57 to 62 degrees.
