Event Details

Creative Housing Liberation (CHL) takes direct action on Black Friday 11/26/10 (which we will celebrate as Thanks Taking Day), by staging a public “open occupation” of vacant residential housing in downtown San Francisco.

CHL’s Black Friday Housing Harvest will include a rally, mass march, and vacant housing takeover where free yummy dinner will be served by Food Not Bombs along with bangin’ music and guest speakers – a self-described “awesome and inspiring block party.”

P.S. you might get charged with trespassing, but the organizers say you’ll probably have the charges dropped

About the Occupation
Hundreds of homeless and formerly homeless individuals, families, community leaders, housing rights activists, immigrants, social workers, squatters, educators, and San Franciscans of all stripes will gather Friday at 3pm to rally for our community’s right to housing. We will then engage in Civil Disobedience by taking to the street and marching directly into abandoned housing and reclaiming it from it’s State of Waste.

Although this may sound like ‘malicious mischief’ to some, many others recognize it as vitally needed Creative Audacity. With over 36,000 vacant housing units in SF ALONE, it is time to harness our community’s wasted resources to house homeless families and individuals. A community assembly addressing homelessness and the housing crisis will take place on the sidewalk outside the occupation.
