Event Details

Often overlooked in the history of the West, Army wives were sharp observers of life on the frontier.

MacArthur Fellowship award winner Dr. Patty Limerick examines how women provided a crucial view on race relations in the 19th Century West in the Presidio Trust’s Contemporary Historians at the Presidio: Voices and Views lecture series. Admission is free.

The lecture, titled “Witnessing War: Army Wives as Undercover Observers of the 19th Century West,” will explore how autobiographies and memoirs written by the wives of officers provide a distinct and illuminating view of the West.
