On Nyingma Institute’s fortieth year anniversary the institute present a week of free classes focusing on cultivating a joyful approach to life based on insight into the workings of body, emotions, mind, and thought. Registration is not necessary.

“Mastering the Art of Happiness” Week begins on Sunday, September 23, with a free entire Sunday Program:

Morning Meditation
Sunday, September 23, 9-9:45 AM

Cost: Free, as part of the “Mastering the Art of Happiness” week.

An opportunity to deepen your meditation practice and to introduce your friends or family to the benefits of Nyingma meditation. Each session includes brief meditation instruction followed by silent sitting. You are welcome to attend any Sunday session. No pre-registration or prior experience necessary.

Kum Nye Relaxation
Sunday, September 23, 10 AM to Noon
Instructor: Jack van der Meulen
Cost: Free, as part of the “Mastering the Art of Happiness” week

Discover the gentle movement exercises of Kum Nye: effective techniques for relaxation, healing, relieving tension, and revitalizing body and mind. Both experienced and beginning students are welcome to attend this drop-in class.

Tibetan Chanting

The practice of mantra enables us to restore a natural balance and harmony in our lives. When we chant a mantra, we are free to transcend habitual reflexes.The sound of mantra can still the mind and senses, relax the body, and connect us with natural healing energy. — Tarthang Tulku in Hidden Mind of Freedom. We invite the public to join us for an hour of Tibetan chanting and meditation. We will be chanting the Vajra Guru Mantra.

Erika Rosenberg on “The Science of Happiness.”

Ancient Buddhist texts advise us to “let a joyful mind sustain us” and many teachings point to the value of joyful, contented feelings. Today, scientists are uncovering some of the mysteries of the neuroscience of happiness. Erika Rosenberg, research psychologist in human emotions and Nyingma Institute instructor, will discuss recent discoveries in the science of happiness, including discussion of the physical and mental health benefits of cultivating joy.
