2010 Schedule

Fri, Jul 23 — Odessa Chen Band
Odessa Chen’s singular musical vision is not easily categorized. She approaches songs of love, longing, and displacement with accomplished lyrics, and unusual song structures. Aspects of folk, classical, and indie rock converge to make music that requires quiet attention. Described as intelligent, subtle, and haunting, Odessa’s pure, ethereal voice and finger-picking guitar style has drawn comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Sigur Ros, Nina Nastasia, and Cat Power. Her debut One Room Palace (2003) attracted international attention and laid the foundation for her current release The Ballad of Paper Ships, which she wrote, produced and arranged.

Fri, Jul 30 — Kacey Johansing
Vocalist and guitarist Kacy Johansing performs songs from her debut album, Many Seasons, sweeping the listener along from her roots in small town Colorado to the bustling San Francisco indie-folk songwriting scene.. Kacey will also perform favorite cover tunes by fellow songwriters in the Bay Area, and beyond.

Fri, Aug 6 — Annie Sajdera
Originally from southern California, pianist and keyboardist Anne Sajdera has been a Bay Area musician for over 20 years. Her performance credits range from concerto soloist to her piano trio—her newest project. She has also performed with Phil Thompson’s Rio Thing, Celso Alberti, the California Music Award-winning band Bat Makumba and Star Search-winner Terry Bradford.

Fri, Aug 13 — Nice Guy Trio
The Nice Guy Trio features Darren Johnston on trumpet, Rob Reich on accordion and Daniel Fabricant on bass. With an emphasis on spontaneity, they create a sound that is both intimate and reflective of their contrasting yet complimentary musical backgrounds. In concert, they navigate through a uniquely diverse collection of original compositions and songs representing folk traditions all around the globe, from jazz to Klezmer to Balkan dance forms, to calypso and beyond.

Fri, Aug 20 — David Belove Trio
Bassist David Belove has been a part of the Bay Area music scene for over 30 years. He has performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Danilo Perez, Tito Puente, Eddie Harris, Pat Metheny, Mark Levine and Larry Coryell, and also serves on the faculty of UC Berkeley’s School of Jazz. David has not only a good ear, but a good eye, and his photography has graced many a recording project.
