Madrone Art Bar | 500 Divisadero Street, San Francisco, CA 94117

Event Details

Join artist Mat McGrath and Ted Barrow of Thrasher Magazine’s This Old Ledge for a conversation on the fusion of skateboarding and fine art.

Mat McGrath is a Bay Area-based artist who creates found-object assemblages and collage pieces. His solo show is currently on view at Madrone Art Bar. His abstract compositions are designed to evoke a sense of painterly beauty and convey a touch of sympathetic magic. By transforming discarded objects into aesthetically pleasing ones, Mathew challenges the conventional notions of worth and beauty.

Ted Barrow is an American art historian, writer, professor, skateboarding critic, social media persona, lecturer, and skateboarder. Barrow hosts, researches, and produces a series of videos on Thrasher Magazine‘s YouTube Channel, titled This Old Ledge, that explore the built and cultural history of past and present skate spots. Unlike other videos that list tricks chronologically, This Old Ledge considers architectural and urban history as factors that shape skateboarding’s history, illustrated with archival photos and video clips.
