Event Details

Modern institutions emphasize technology and the scientific method to explain the experience of nature, leading to a sense of personal alienation and loss of intimacy with the natural environment. Starting with data as a conceptual basis, Segal’s work seeks to incorporate scientific inquiry as a sensory experience manifested as physical sculptural forms that reveal trends, patterns, processes and the unseen changes that occur in the natural landscape over time.

Segal will share her design method that integrates scientific research, data visualization, aesthetic interpretation and materiality as a means to engage a broad audience and evoke dialogue, wonder, and consciousness about changes in our natural environment.
