Awesöme Orchestra | Epic Free Classical Concerts
Awesöme Orchestra brings people together for musical adventures. Their free sessions are part performance, part open rehearsal. They provide the sheet music, and anyone is welcome to play or to listen.
The Awesöme Orchestra Collective is the Bay Area’s most adventurous reading orchestra, dedicated to playing excellent orchestral music of all kinds with amazing musicians in a fun, casual environment focused on high musicianship. Their events are always free, but they ask for a pay-what-you-will donation to help cover basic costs.
Their program for this session couldn’t be more diverse. Uematsu’s “One-Winged Angel” from Final Fantasy VII was inspired by Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, the rock stylings of Jimi Hendrix and cinematic drama of Hitchcock’s Psycho theme. Awesöme Orchestra is proud to premiere Symphony No. 1 by Oakland’s Feona Lee Jones, a celebrated composer with works spanning classical, film, interactive games, and many others. The session concludes with Danzón No. 2, arguably the most popular and frequently performed Mexican contemporary classical music compositions.
