2020 Bay Area Dance Week | April 24 – May 3
Intrigued by firedancing or dancing with light? Interested in learning to spin poi? Begin your poi journey with this free intro class.
What is poi?
Poi involves swinging and dancing with tethered weights through a variety of rhythmic and geometric patterns.
In this class, explore the basics of poi spinning, covering planes, direction, timing, and body mechanics, along with an introduction to beginner poi moves.
At the end of the class, you will have an understanding of poi technique and several drills to take home and begin building a solid foundation for your practice. If you have ever wanted to spin poi, now is the time.
The instructor for this class, Erol, has a deep passion for the flow arts and has been teaching and performing for over 7 years. He is very excited to bring some poi flow to Bay Area Dance Week, and hopes to see you there!
Special Instructions for Participants:
No poi? No worries – sample poi are available for workshop use. If you’re interested, you can also purchase poi to take home.
