Event Details

The new east span of the Bay Bridge is scheduled to open to cars, trucks and motorcycles at 5 am on September 3, 2013, the day after Labor Day.

Update: the bridge is now scheduled to open up early –  between 9pm and 10pm on Monday 9/2.

Unfortunately, the grand opening celebration has been cancelled. The bridge bash was originally going to feature a bridge walk, 10-kilometer and half-marathon runs, a bike ride, and fireworks launched from both ends of the bridge that were to rival the Golden Gate Bridge 75th anniversary hoopla of 2012.

Excited East Bay and SF dwellers will simply have to revel in a driving across the brand-spankin’ new, seismically safe, beautiful new east span stretching from West Oakland to Treasure Island.

East Bay bicyclists and pedestrians can try out the new bike path, but please note that the path does not yet reach Treasure Island. The current path is sure to afford some great views of the bay, so it’s still worth checking out.

Disclaimer: Please double check event information with the event organizer as events can be canceled, details can change after they are added to our calendar, and errors do occur.
