100 Year Anniversary | Santa Cruz Wharf

The Santa Cruz Wharf celebrates its 100th Anniversary with a series of celebratory events starting October 2013 and throughout 2014.

The current wharf was built in 1914, the last of six built on the site.

Pop-Up Museum | 100 Year Anniversary | Santa Cruz Wharf

Head to Santa Cruz to celebrate 100 years of wharf history. Join for the kickoff event with the Museum of Art and History’s pop up museum “The Santa Cruz Wharf is in the Heart: Celebrating 100 Years of Wharf History” on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from noon to 2 pm.

The Museum of Art and History will host a “pop up museum” in which community members will engage photographs and historical objects related to the wharf’s 100-year history. Community members will also be encouraged to bring photographs, artifacts and stories to share as well.

Historian and author Geoffrey Dunn will be on hand to facilitate the activities along with special guest Santa Cruz Mayor Hilary Bryant. ROMA Design Group will also be on hand to solicit the community’s ideas and vision for the wharf as part of the Master Plan process. Fine wines by Vino Prima will be available as well as hors d’oeuvres by Firefish Café, Olitas and more (these are most likely for purchase).

Also, take a 30 minute guided eco tour of the Santa Cruz Wharf offered at 1 and 3 pm. Learn about marine research, sea lions, red tides, sustainable energy, and view wildlife from a 1/2 mile out to sea without leaving shore. Guides are from UCSC’s Seymour Marine Discovery Center. (Look for them wearing blue shirts and khaki pants.) Meet at the Wharf stage next to Marini’s and Olitas.
