Underground Film Night: Obscure Super 8 & 16mm Movies | Berkeley

The Berkeley Underground Film Society (BUFS) is an all ages club for collectors, researchers, and film enthusiasts in the East Bay and San Francisco area.

Their goal is to review and share a selective film history of movies on film.

Every Sunday, they screen buried, rarely projected, or otherwise obscure 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm prints from their collection.

See The Phantom of the Opera (1925) on Sunday, October 13, 2013.
A mad, disfigured composer seeks love with a lovely young opera singer.

The original 1925 version only survives in 16mm “Show-At-Home” prints created by Universal for home movie use in the 1930s. There are several versions of these prints, but none is complete. All are from the original, domestic camera negative.

Director: Rupert Julian
Writer: Gaston Leroux (from the celebrated novel by)
Stars: Lon Chaney, Mary Philbin, Norman Kerry

16mm/B&W/Silent/60 min.
