Join the JCCSF for the opening reception of the latest exhibition, Big Bellies, and enjoy complimentary refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists.

Big Bellies celebrates food at large, a popular subject at the Creativity Explored studios. Creativity Explored gives artists with developmental disabilities the means to create and share their work with the community, celebrating the power of art to change lives. This expansive collection sparks a larger conversation around cultural identity, family traditions, class and nourishment.

Playing off the theme of artistic beauty in food, Big Bellies features work by more than fifteen Creativity Explored artists who include food as visual or conceptual elements. From quintessential desserts to arrays of fruits and vegetables, from hyper-processed food packaging to simple bowls of rice, the representation of food in Big Bellies goes beyond classical still-life. The depictions of food offer not just metaphorical messages, but rather reflections on identity and tradition.

This exhibit is in partnership with Creativity Explored.
