Event Details

Identifying a bird is a complex process, requiring both knowledge and the same split-second mental gymnastics used in one of our basic human skills – how to recognize a friend.

Birding expert Alvaro Jaramillo provides a delightful exploration of the art and science of birding, from its versatile engagement of the brain to its accessibility as a boundless gateway to nature. Focusing on the Bay Area and particularly San Francisco as one of the continent’s richest and most diverse environments for birds, this beautifully illustrated talk is for anyone interested in the how-to of birding and in the value birds bring to our lives.

Alvaro Jaramillo has authored several books. His newest, The American Birding Association Field Guide to the Birds of California, is due out in summer 2015. He is a biologist, curious naturalist, and owns a birding travel company, Alvaro’s Adventures, based in Half Moon Bay.

This event is free but due to space constraints registration is required. Please complete the registration process below. Please note that registering does not guarantee admission. Registered guests will be offered priority admission that will be honored until 15 minutes before the start of the event.
