Event Details

Acclaimed Spanish writer BRENDA NAVARRO will present her new novel Eating Ashes. Brenda will be joined in conversation by Megan McDowell, who translated Brenda’s book from Spanish, and will sign copies of her book after the presentation.

Masterfully translated by National Book Award winner Megan McDowell, and shot through with flashes of dark humor, Eating Ashes boldly confronts both the intimate and systemic struggles faced by migrants striving to build a life worth living. Already an international sensation across Europe, this novel cements Brenda Navarro as a breathtakingly unique and vital voice in literature.

BRENDA NAVARRO is a Mexican writer, sociologist, and economist. She researches and writes about women’s labour, women’s access to culture, digital rights and humanities, and migration.

MEGAN MCDOWELL is an American literary translator. She principally translates Spanish-language works into English. Originally from Kentucky, she studied English at DePaul University in Chicago. Upon graduation, she worked at the Dalkey Archive Press.
