Event Details

Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.

Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.

Re-Opening Day | Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

On October 1, 2013, freespace will re-open its doors to community to start planning a ton of free and fun community projects for the next 30 days.

It’s a call for artists to get wall space, it’s a call for projects (want to building a balloon launch into outspace? Want to throw a silent disco block party?). This is civic and artist hacking, so bring your ideas. Open house starts at 5 pm and the open core meeting starts at 6 pm. Bring anything you can donate – chairs, paper plates, markers papers – If you’ve got it, Freespace might need it.

Build Your City Sculpture Party will be a real-time participatory emergent sculpture representing your vision for the future of our cities.

They will be constructing models out of scrap materials. They’ve got paint samples and fabrics for roads, parks, and bridges, towering metal discards for sky scrapers, blocks of wood for buildings, crazy buttons and cans, and other weird sh*t to make people or robots or… aliens?! Oh snap, the invasion just began. Quick get the glue gun and join up for some stacking, assembling, gluing, cutting, and all around visioneering this evening.
