On Cal Day, the entire UC Berkeley campus once again throws open its doors to the public and presents a full day of over 400 events – free lectures, performances, tours, concerts and more to showcase the campus, its students, and the school’s programs.

2018 Featured Events
- SUPERB Presents: Cal Day Concert Featuring Cuco and No Vacation
Once again, Cal Day concludes with a concert in Memorial Glade. This year, SUPERB showcases two exciting young California talent. Cuco is a 19-year-old Chicano dream-pop artist, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as a “heartthrob musical auteur.” No Vacation is San Francisco’s favorite indie rock band, bringing sunny beach vibes to Memorial Glade.
- Cal Band Performance
The University of California Marching Band is the pride of California and the pacesetter of marching bands across the nation. Come see the band perform–it’s a Cal Day tradition!
- Cal Spirit Rally
The annual Cal Day spirit rally, held by members of Cal Spirit, introduces new students to Cal fight songs, and rouses people of all ages, young and old! Come feel the Spirit of California (whether it’s for the first time or the 100th!). Go Bears!
- Free BAMPFA Gallery Tours
Come tour the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive! Admission to the museum galleries is free all day on Cal Day.
- Mariachi Luz de Oro Performs Live at the Genetics and Plant Biology Lawn
Newly admitted students and their families are invited to an early morning welcome with Chancellor Nicholas B. Dirks and Berkeley Nobel laureate Randy Schekman for his role in revealing the machinery that regulates the transport and secretion of proteins in the cells. Chancellor Dirks and Professor Schekman will share their insights into the UC Berkeley experience.
- School of Public Health 75th Anniversary Research Showcase
Berkeley’s School of Public Health marks a milestone this year: 75 years of educating the public health workforce, 75 years of groundbreaking research, and 75 years of transformative health impact in California and around the world. In celebration, join the research showcase on Cal Day. View details.
- Open House: Museum of Vertebrate Zoology
Do you love animals? Visit the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology! With more than 700,000 bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian specimens, the museum is one of the largest university-based collections of tetrapod vertebrates. Drop by for a rare peek at our research and education specimens, and interact with scientists to learn about our research.
- Tour the Museum of Paleontology
Take an exclusive guided tour through amazing fossil collections not normally open to the public. We’ll have tours every half hour from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Tickets available on Cal Day beginning at 9 a.m. at the T-shirt table in 1101 Valley Life Sciences Building. Get yours early–tickets go fast, and each half-hour tour is limited to 15 participants.
- Science Bonanza
Visit the south lawn of the Valley Life Sciences Building to see live animals and plants, play science games and other activities, and meet special guests from around the Bay Area.
- Live Kelp Forest Organisms with Touch Tank
See and touch live seaweeds and invertebrates collected by scientists while scuba diving in Monterey Bay kelp forests. Biologists will share interesting facts and natural history notes related to these fascinating sea creatures.
- Beach Volleyball Big Spike Picnic
Come to the Big Spike Picnic at the Clark Kerr courts! Watch Cal’s beach volleyball team take on Stanford at noon. Picnic hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Check out our live DJ and food truck while the Bears engage the Cardinal. Picnic games include a bounce house, cornhole, giant Jenga, silent auction, and more.
- Blake Garden Open House
Enjoy a stroll through this 10.5-acre formal garden and landscape architecture teaching facility overlooking San Francisco Bay. Join the free tour at 2 p.m., and don’t miss the Create-with-Nature Zone for kids.

- Cable Cars
Make a 30-minute loop around campus on a motorized cable car, running 9:30 am–4:30 pm. Hop on or off at any stop.
