Police Terrorism Candle Light Vigil Circling Lake Merritt | Oakland

Show support for those who have lost their lives to police terrorism with a candle light vigil at 5:00 pm at Lake Merritt.

There are three meeting locations:

• The pillars at Embarcadero and Grand
• Lakeside Drive across from Snow Park
• Grassy amphitheater on Lake Merritt Blvd.

They will walk in a single file line in both directions until they have encircled the lake. They will collectively hold space to mourn the lives stolen from us and create a circle of healing for families who have lost their children to police violence.

Please bring candles and paper cups to protect the flames from wind and engage in a silent procession around the lake.

Schedule:

• 5:00 pm: Begin to gather in three locations: Snow Park, grassy amphitheater and under the pillars
• 5:30 pm: Circle the lake with light
• 6:00 pm: Hold silence for 4.5 minutes in remembrance of the time Michael Brown’s body was left in the street
• 6:15 pm: Close with love and embraces as you make your way home
