Event Details

One man, one Chinatown.

From creating the San Francisco Chinese New Year parade and celebration to co-establishing the iconic Empress of China restaurant to co-founding the Chinese Historical Society of America…
One singular man is responsible for the shaping of San Francisco Chinatown as we know it today.

Join a virtual fireside chat with Wesley Wong and his co-author Catherine Lenox as they talk about their collaborative book, “Mr. Chinatown: The Legacy of H.K. Wong.”

Learn about H.K.’s life story and his contributions to his community—from serving as the one-man community publicist to his oral-history project adventures and his many community service projects—that helped open up Chinatown from an insular enclave to the world at large. Today that impact continues to be felt and seen throughout Chinatown, the city of San Francisco, and beyond.

Event is free, donations appreciated. Signed copies of Mr. Chinatown will be available for purchase.
