When it comes to Mexico’s best beverages, it’s tempting to think of tequila first. However, few people know that the first vineyards in North America were first planted by the Spanish in Mexico in the 16th century. Since the 1970s, Mexican wines have been on the rise, and today, there are some 8,000 acres under vine, mostly planted to common European grape varietals in high-altitude vineyards.

What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than to taste the quality of Mexican wines against those of a more classic wine-growing country like France?
