The 17th Annual Urban Youth Arts Festival on July 20, 2013 is bringing back their 1,000 square feet of portable wall space to Precita Park  for artists of all ages to express themselves with free paint, brushes, even aerosol paint cans.

The Urban Youth Arts Festival is in its 17th year of bringing out the walls, recycled from year to year. There’s usually a lineup full of live music, DJs, live painting, spoken word lyricists, and poetry slammers.

The Precita Eyes Mural Center puts on the event. Every year 200 to 300 people show up and organizers think that it’s a good way to keep kids out of trouble–given the 200 cans of aerosol paint that are used to make art on the walls, instead of tags on public spaces.

Extra incentive: The best art pieces will be auctioned off with some being kept and shown throughout the year at galleries.
