San Francisco’s 4th of July Fireworks

Celebrate 2014 Independence Day with live music and entertainment all day in front of Pier 39 on July 4, 2014.

At approximately 9:30 pm, visitors will be treated to The City of San Francisco’s spectacular fireworks display over the Bay.

The day features musical entertainment and activities in Pier 39 including:

• Noon to 3 pm: ‘Mobility’ an upbeat group of talented musicians bringing you rock, jazz and blues favorites, new and old, from the USAF Band of the Golden West on the Entrance Plaza Stage
• 5 – 8 pm: Tainted Love whose musical goal is total ’80s domination on the Entrance Plaza Stage
• 9:30 pm: Fourth of July Fireworks show will launch from the foot of Municipal Pier and from barges north of Pier 39. If you can’t make it to Aquatic Park, other good viewing locations are all along the waterfront including by Coit Tower, Aquatic Park, the Cannery, and Ghirardelli Square.

Where else to watch the San Francisco fireworks | 2014

• Aquatic Park – Live music with Huey Lewis tribute band
• Fort Mason at Off the Grid with live music & 35 food trucks
• Roller Disco Caravan – start at Ferry Building and “roll” to the fireworks
• SF Bike Party – a patriotic bike ride ending up watching fireworks
• Watch from Angel Island
• Watch from Treasure Island for free on the Great Lawn or at a Red White and Rose $15 celebration  
  

Caltrain – Extra Late Night Southbound Trains | 2014

Caltrain operates extra southbound service out of San Francisco for those attending the Independence Day fireworks along the waterfront.

Post-fireworks specials will depart San Francisco at the scheduled time or when full.

• 11:15 pm: express to San Carlos, then local to San Jose Diridon
• 11:30 pm: local to San Jose Diridon
• 12:01 am: local to San Jose Diridon

One-way tickets or day passes may be purchased at the ticket machines at stations before boarding. Customers using their Clipper® card (8-ride and e-cash) must remember to tag on before boarding and tag off at their destination station. Caltrain is a Proof-of-Payment system; customers without valid tickets are subject to citation. Unfortunately there’s no booze allowed on trains from San Francisco after 9 pm.

Muni | 2014 – Getting to and from the fireworks

On Friday, July 4, 2014, Muni will be running on a Sunday schedule.

The following weekday and weekday/Saturday-only routes will not run: 1AX, 1BX, 8AX, 8BX, 9L, 14X, 28L, 31AX, 31BX, 38AX, 38BX, 38L, 41, 80X, 81X, 82X, 83X, 88.

Pre-Event
Starting at 2 p.m., the SFMTA will provide pre-event bus shuttles to Fisherman’s Wharf from the Ferry Building, Caltrain station at 4th and King streets to Ferry Plaza and Civic Center at Grove and Hyde Streets to Van Ness Avenue and Chestnut Street.

Supplemental Service
Starting at 2 p.m., the SFMTA will provide supplement Metro service in the Market Street subway between Embarcadero and West Portal Stations and the 108 Treasure Island Muni route.

Muni Fare
Between 2:30 and 8:30 p.m., SFMTA staff will be selling transfers at the Caltrain station and the Ferry Building.  Muni customers may purchase their round-trip fare in advance. Regular Muni fares will apply.

Post-Event
Return shuttle service will begin at 10 p.m. at two staging areas after the fireworks display until11:30 p.m.  The return staging areas are:

• The Embarcadero and Bay Street for service to the Ferry Building and Caltrain station
• Polk and Francisco streets for service to Van Ness Avenue and Market Street and Civic Center Muni/BART Station

Caltrain riders are advised that the last Muni shuttle from The Embarcadero and Bay staging area will leave no later than 11:30 p.m. to meet the last Caltrain, which departs at midnight.

Once the crowds disperse, regular Muni service will resume. This can take at least a half hour. Participants and those traveling in the area are asked to allow extra travel time.

Parking | 2014

• Parking meters, posted time limit zones and seven day street sweeping will be enforced citywide on the holiday. We know this sucks.
• Commuter tow away, residential parking permits and Monday-Friday daytime street sweeping will not be enforced.
• Meters on Port of San Francisco property, including The Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf, are enforced seven days per week throughout the year, except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
• Hazards are always subject to ticketing and towing.
