The iconic Budweiser brewery in Fairfield is shutting down after five decades. Easily spotted from I‑80 with its giant neon Budweiser sign, the plant has been a Bay Area landmark since 1976.

Nearly 240 employees will be affected, though Anheuser-Busch says it’s offering roles at other plants across the country. The closure also hits the city’s wallet, with an estimated $10.7 million in lost local taxes, and ends a number of community traditions, from the brewery’s rooftop Christmas tree to the famous Clydesdales in holiday parades.

Fans may also remember that the brewery ended its popular tours in early 2019, which always wrapped up with two free beers. The plant will officially close by February 22, 2026, leaving Los Angeles as the only Budweiser production site in California.
